Sound Waves

Sound Waves is a new, inclusive music provision for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

It will be held at the York Music Centre (run by York Arts Education) at Millthorpe School on Saturday mornings – starting with 2 taster sessions from 10.00 – 11.00 on February 2nd and 9th.

If you are interested, please complete the online form below to help us get an idea of the range of needs for which we need to be planning.

After the initial taster sessions we may extend the provision to 2 separate sessions (10.00-11.00 and 11.30-12.30) to better cater for the range of abilities and ages.

(We will also be running some prior tasters in schools during the school day during January.)

The sessions will cover a wide range of music-making using suitable instruments, body percussion and the voice and it is intended that this will provide an opportunity to engage with both high-quality musical activities and with social interaction – Make Music Make Friends.

Furthermore, by trialling this provision at our Music Centre, there may be further opportunities for some young people to join in with other activities as may be appropriate such as the First Access Band, Junior Choir and Steel Pans.

The music leader is Chris Bartram who is a very experienced community musician and has worked extensively with a range of needs at Accessible Arts and Media for many years.

This project is funded by the York Music Hub and Music4U and is run by York Arts Education – the Music Hub’s lead delivery partner.
